How thick is microcement?

Microcement is often chosen as a relatively thin finish, especially for renovations. However, the decorative coats are not the only layers that affect the final floor or wall level.

Exact thickness depends on the product system, the base and the preparation required. SENSE confirms the full build-up after checking the project. We do not present another manufacturer's numbers as SENSE specifications.

Why there is no single thickness. A manufacturer may publish a standard thickness for its tested layers. That number applies to that product and method. Another system, or the same system over a different base, may need different preparation. A thickness number is not useful unless it clearly says whether it includes levelling, reinforcement, waterproofing and protective coats. Missing layers can cause problems at doors and thresholds.

Preparation may add more height. A flat and sound base may need very little correction. Uneven tiles, deep grout lines, damaged screed or poor floor slopes may need repair or levelling before microcement starts. If the base cannot be prepared within the available height, removal or another construction method may be more suitable.

Coordinate the finished level. Check doors, sliding tracks, skirtings, stair edges, drains, bathroom fittings, built-in furniture and connections to timber, stone, tile or carpet. Small height changes are most visible at these fixed points. In wet rooms, thickness must be planned together with floor slopes and drainage. The construction below should create the shape that moves water to the drain.

What SENSE needs to confirm a build-up. Identify the base and existing finish. Share levels or detail drawings if available, and mark any fixed thresholds.
